I am a Board certified psychiatrist who practices in Berkeley, California and Cambridge, Massachusetts. I am Distinguished Consulting Faculty at the Saybrook School of Graduate Studies and Research where I am associated with the Consciousness and Spirituality concentration and the Mind- Body Medicine concentration. I have received several awards for my writing, teaching, and clinical work including the Cornelia Wilbur Award for original contributions to the field of dissociation. I have been named one of America’s Top Psychiatrists for 2007, 2008, and 2009. I am a Past Editor of the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis., and I am the co-author of Healing the Divided Self: Clinical and Ericksonian Hypnotherapy for Post-Traumatic and Dissociative Conditions
 and Inner Strengths: Contemporary Psychotherapy and Hypnosis for Ego-Strengthening.

It is my hope that this website will allow me to share with you some information about my clinical practice, my practice locations and policies, some of my views about psychotherapy, my publications, my workshop schedule, and a number of resources to which I have links.
